Updating your insurance policies is an excellent way to save money. If you have one insurance company that takes care of your vehicles and one insurance company that takes care of your home, you need to change this. You can save big money if you insure your vehicles and home with the same insurance company. We are talking at least 10% savings plus when you combine the items you own.

Update your insurance policies by calling your insurance agent. He or she will be very happy to help you save money. If you are leery about changing your insurance policies just ask the insurance companies how much your bill would be if you combine them. Call both insurance companies to see who offers the best deal as well.

If you do use this by claiming damage often you will see your insurance premiums jump sky high. Your insurance company may even drop you as a customer if they feel you are a high risk person.

If you are over the age of twenty five than make an appointment with your insurance agent. Your insurance on your vehicle should go to a lower rate as now you are looked at as a more responsible driver. Once you are married you can get a lower insurance rate especially if the two of you combine your insurance plans. You can also lower your rate if you have a safe vehicle such as a van or larger car. If you drive a sport’s car unfortunately you will pay higher premiums.

Save Money for Next Year's Garden

Now is the time to start looking for items you will need for your garden next year. If you need tools, mulch, etc., you can get them on sale now and save money for next year’s garden.

To shop for items for next year, look around at garden centers or discount stores in your area. Now is the best time (or early in the spring) to shop as garden centers and discount stores put their items on sale so they can make room for the inventory that they will be needing next. Buy tropical plants at this time and decorate your home with them. Next summer you will be able to put them in the outdoors.

Now is the time to save seeds for next year so you save money on your garden. Collect the seeds from your garden. Ask any of your friends and family members if they would like to swap seeds with you. Perhaps your friends and family members are not into swapping seeds but will give you seeds of theirs as they do not want them. To store the seeds put them in a paper bag. Make sure you label the paper bag so come spring you know what the seeds are. Store the bagged seeds in a cool and dry place until next spring when you plant them.

If you have perennials now is the time to dig them up and split them. Take the perennials and use your shovel to split them. Now you can transplant the perennials in your garden or throughout your yard. You can ask family and/or friends if they would like to swap perennials and save money for next year‘s garden.

Skip buying fertilizer as it is a larger expense. Make an area in your yard a compost pile. You can learn how to start up a compost pile by using an online search engine such as Google or go to your library and check out a gardening book. There are certain foods you should not put in your compost pile and you can learn which ones online or from a book at the library.

Make Money Plowing Snow

It is the end of summer an if you live in the midwest you need to prepare for the snow. You can make great money plowing snow.

If you have a large truck all you have to invest in is a large blade that will hook up to the front end of your truck as well as parts to hook it on. Of course, you will want snow tires on as well.
Now is the perfect time to start making brochures and business cards so you can make money plowing snow.

Your brochure should have your name, a business name if you so choose, address and phone number on it. Put a border along the edges to make it look more professional. Add a photo at the top or on the front of your brochure of a driveway filled with snow to remind potential customers what lies ahead. Maybe you want to put a picture of a shovel with the “not” sign over it.

If you have the time you can put one of your brochures and business cards (made right off of your computer) in as many newspaper boxes as possible. Or you may want to hire your teenager or a neighbor teen to hand them out.

You could offer a seasonal pass for say $250.00 which means anytime it snows over three inches or more of snow you will plow their driveway. The customer will not have to worry about paying you and he or she will have peace of mind knowing they are taken care of all winter.

When times are tough and people need a job, the health industry is rockin’. People will always be ill and need care so becoming a nurse’s aide or registered nurse is a great way to keep your job secure.

You can take the nurses aide or registered nurse classes’ right at a technical college. The RN classes are four years crammed into two years. This is perfect if you do not have four years to spend taking classes. You just need to make sure that you will have enough time and dedication to study.

The average wage for a nurse’s aide to start is $11.00. You can choose to work in a nursing home, clinic, hospital or in-home care. The hospital will most likely be the best paying. If you work second shift or third shift you will most likely make more money per hour.

The average wage for a registered nurse is $30.00 per hour. Registered nurses have more responsibility and can administer medication as well as many other duties versus the nurse’s aide. RN wages on second shift and third shift also offer a wage increase. If you work in the emergency room you may even make $50.00+ per hour as an RN.

Both jobs will offer excellent insurance and benefits. With the cost of healthcare this is an excellent benefit to joining the nursing field. (In-home care may not offer insurance/benefits if you decide to become self-employed. If you work for a company you may get the insurance and/or benefits.)

Check out your local technical college for information on the courses you will need to take to become either a nurse’s aide or registered nurse. Before you know it, you will be making great money and feel relaxed with job security.

You are also going to rent that room out more than a room without a private bathroom attached.

You can offer a choice of breakfast by leaving a little note in the customer’s room. Have them check off if they want eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, hash browns, cereal, toast, pancakes or crepes for breakfast. This way you can be prepared for when the guests come down to breakfast. Offer coffee, juice and milk with the breakfast.

For fun activities on the farm you can let the customers milk your cows. This would be an awesome experience for most people as they have never tried this.
