Everyone seems to be going green with everything they do. People are going green using solar energy for their heat and electricity. Some people are buying bamboo clothing and furniture for their home. Even different types of carpeting are made with green materials now.

If you like to create things for gifts or for yourself, you can go green by polishing rocks and engraving rocks. These polished and engraved rocks will be treasured by all those that you give them to for gifts. You can engrave their name, pet’s name, child or children’s names on them, favorite short sayings, crosses and other pictures and more.

To get started you will want to either order rocks online or go out and collect rocks. Once you have an ample supply of rocks, you will then want to clean the rocks. You will have about four stages to clean the rocks. You will need a tumbler that is also a rock polisher. The first stage of rock cleaning will have gritty sand. The gritty sand will tumble the rocks around and make the edges nice and smooth. You will use very fine sand at about the third stage of the rock cleaning.

Next brush off any dust on your rocks. Now you will need to engrave the rocks. You can buy the rock tumbler/engraver online. As long as you have a steady hand, the sky is the limit as to what you want to engrave on your polished rocks. After you have engraved the word or words on the rock, take a brush and clean off the dust.

Now you are ready to polish the rocks. You can buy rock polish at craft stores such as Hobby Lobby, Ben Franklin, etc., or you may choose to shop online for rock polish. Follow the directions on the rock polish and put the rocks in the tumbler and let it do its magic.

You now have a wonderful gift for yourself or for your friends. You may want to sell your unique polished rocks and engraved rocks online. Go to Etsy.com or make up your own website with a shopping cart for customers to purchase your rocks.
